Talent Management is the Top Concern of CRE CFOs: (Video) Interview with Jennifer McLean

Jennifer McLean, (Click here for Jennifer’s LinkedIn profile), Chief Financial Officer of GFI Capital Resources Group sits down with me at The Real Estate CFO Forum hosted by the Information Management Network (IMN).

During this portion of the interview, Jennifer and I focused on Talent Management, through the eyes of the real estate CFO.

According to Jennifer:

  • The talent pool is pretty small
  • They are looking for a higher caliber of employee
  • Employees need to be well rounded

Here is an interesting concept, managing real property is not about dirt, it’s all about people. I would take that concept even further. Every part of the real estate business is about people, from purchase through management and sale.

Other notable quotes include

“The key is to demonstrate opportunity within your current organization”

The employment tenure of employees, early in their career, particularly in multi-family is typically, 3-5 years.

“Money isn’t always the reason that people leave. They want to be challenged. They don’t want to be doing the same thing, day in and day out and they want to have a better understanding of the overall organization”

“Common sense is key, the have to be able to think on their own”
